4 Resources That Make Learning Code Easy

Posted 13th November, 2013 by Aliysa

As Steve Jobs once said: “Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think.” There are plenty of online resources to help you start coding if you're a complete rookie, and to advance your skills further if you're a more experienced programmer.

Code Academy

If you’re a coding newbie Code Academy is a brilliant, free resource to get you started. It’s probably the most renowned online tool for learning coding languages, and is a firm favourite here in the Tsohost office amongst both the support and marketing team. Code Academy provides interactive classes for learning jQuery, Javascript, PHP, Python and Ruby languages, plus constructing APIs and using the languages you’ve learnt to build web projects. To keep you motivated, you’re rewarded with points and badges upon completing classes.

Nettuts+

Nettuts+

Nettuts+ offers well-structured tutorials and articles on various programming languages, skills and techniques, aiming to enhance the way you design and build websites. It’s a good site for those with a bit of coding knowledge, although tutorials vary from beginner to advanced in difficulty level. They also offer a paid-for platform - Nettuts+ Premium - which has ‘top-to-bottom’ courses for specific programming skills.

Lynda

(http://www.lynda.com/)Lynda Our design team swear by Lynda.com - a site that provides over 2,000 high quality online training courses covering everything from web develpoment to web design. The extensive Developer section includes videos on a number of coding languages, aimed at users of varying skill-levels. Unlike the other resources Lynda.com is only accessible for paid subscribers.

Stack Overflow

(http://stackoverflow.com/)Stack Overflow

It’s not a tutorial site, but Stack Overflow deserves a mention as a handy resource for expert computing and coding advice. It’s a community-driven Q&A site where you’ll find questions - and answers - on just about every programming language out there. Although not a starting point for learning coding from scratch, Stack Overflow is great for times when your run into coding problems. If your query isn’t already covered by the 6 million+ questions asked, then sign up for free and ask the community yourself!
