Rank Higher in Google with HTTPS

Posted 27th August, 2014 by Aliysa

Google have recently announced that HTTPS is now being used as a ranking signal, meaning secure websites displaying a valid SSL Certificates will be prioritised in search engine results, and are likely to rank higher than those website without the added encryption.

We all know the world of SEO is complex. With its ever changing algorithms and techniques, it’s tricky for even the most clued up web masters to stay ahead of the curve. With this new search ranking signal every website owner, no matter what their ability, can reap the SEO benefits and improve their sites ranking - simply by acquiring a valid SSL Certificate for their site.

The transition to HTTPS is simple and we’ve rounded up some key information that will help you decide what kind of SSL certificate is best for you.

Firstly, What Exactly is HTTPS?

Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is a communications protocol for a secure connection between a website and a visitor’s web browser. If you take a quick look at your browser address bar now you’ll see that https:// is displayed before our URL. Not only does this highlight to visitors that our site is secure it now give us an additional SEO advantage over websites without this encryption.

What SSL Certificate is Best For Me?

Choosing a suitable SSL Certificate for you website is simple, as is the configuration; our support team take care of the installation from start to finish. Here at Tsohost we offer 4 different types of SSL certificates, all of which have a 2048-bit key encryption as recommended by Google.

Standard SSL Certificate: Ideal for the majority of website owners, our Standard SSL Certificate securely encrypts data travelling to and from one domain. Sites with a Standard SSL Certificate will display a green padlock in the browser address bar, and an additional site seal is provider for website owners to display on site.More info.

Premium SSL Certificate: A Premium SSL covers one domain in the same way as the Standard Certificate, however the Premium Certificate gives you a $100,000 warranty against data loss/interception, as opposed to the $10,000 warranty offered by the Standard. Again a green padlock will be displayed in the browser address bar, and an additional site seal is provider for website owners to display on site. More info.

Wildcard SSL Certificate: This SSL securely encrypts data on a single domain and an unlimited number of subdomains. This means that if for example your site is yourdomain.com, any subdomains you have i.e. mail.yourdomain.com or shop.yourdomain.com are also covered. Again a green padlock will be displayed in the browser address bar, and an additional site seal is provider for website owners to display on site. More info.

EV Premium SSL Certificate (EV SSLs): This is the highest level of Certificate available and to qualify website owners need to go through additional validation checks. This Certificate covers one domain name. Visitors to sites displaying an EV SSL will see a green bar in their browser bar (as you can see by looking at yours now) further highlighting that the site is secure.More info.
