We’re going to WordCamp London, are you?

We’re going to WordCamp London, are you?

Posted 14th March, 2019 by Janah

On April 5, 6 and 7 a couple of extra OOOs will be turned on at the tsoHost head office, as key members of the team head out to WordCamp London to man an exhibition stand.

Taking place at London Metropolitan University, WordCamp – for those who don’t already know – is a conference designed for anyone who has an interest in WordPress – from bloggers to business owners and designers to developers.

This will be the fifth annual iteration of the event, which attracts visitors with all levels of tech experience from rookie to vet.

WordCamp conferences and meet-ups take place across the world. The London event is the largest in the UK.

Why WordCamp?

Sponsoring WordCamp London is a no-brainer for tsoHost. The company offers web hosting plans that are specifically tailored to ensure WordPress sites run at their optimum, so the tsoHost team are natural cheerleaders for the platform.

WordCamp highlights

The schedule for WordCamp London 2019 is a plump one. Following the open-source contributor-centric day on April 5, the event will feature more than 40 lectures and seminars on April 6 and 7 that are open to all visitors.

Topics for talks range from content and design to development and WordPress for business. Speakers for the event were dwindled down from a list of 139 people who applied to talk at the show, so the calibre of sessions will be sky-high.

While we’ve been prepping for the event, we’ve come up with particular wish-list of talks that we wouldn’t want to miss if we weren’t manning our stand.

Here are the talks we’d be most likely to beeline to if we were you…

What: Mindful Design: Designing with Presence for Purpose and Inclusion

When: April 6, 11:50

Best for: Designers

Why: Speaker Raffaella Isidori has 25 years’ experience as a designer and contributes to Make WordPress in order to help innovate the platform. Her pre-lunchtime talk will focus on how designers can incorporate mindfulness into their work.

What: Introduction to Web Components

When: April 6, 16.10

Best for: Developers and designers

Why: Scheduled close to the end of the first day, this talk is worth waiting for. Delivered by Google’s developer programs engineer and WordPress core committer, Felix Arntz, the talk offers an insight into Web Components that’s heavy on examples.

What: Are You Ready To Publish? – The Afterlife…

When: April 7, 10:20

Best for: Business owners and start-ups

Why: The results of a month-long experiment will be revealed in this session, led by full-time WordPress owner and company manager Ronald Gijsel. The talk will look at the role of content when it comes to company websites and raise questions such as ‘how far should businesses go to promote content’ and the controversial ‘should businesses blog at all?’.

What: Effective copywriting tips for better UX

When: April 7, 11:20

Best for: Designers, developers and writers

Why: The knowledge for this talk has been flown in all the way Canada and is delivered by Andrea Zoellner, lead organiser for WordCamp Montreal. The session focuses on UX, but it elbows concepts like font and colour out of the way to focus on the role micro-copy can play in everything from site usability to conversion rates.

What: 5 Ecommerce Trends to Implement Now

When: April 6, 14:00

Best for: Businesses

Why: Topher Derosia, the author of this talk, is a WordPress developer evangelist for big commerce. In this session, he’ll spill the beans on the ways businesses of all sizes can put the latest ecommerce trends into practice.

The tsoHost stand at WordCamp London

Of course, the place to be between talks will be the tsoHost stand, where the team will be on hand to offer guidance and advice on WordPress hosting best practice.

Ask the crew about the different packages available – from start-up bundles to eCommerce options. And ensure you ask them about the freebies that come with tsoHost’s WordPress hosting packages – did someone say free domain name?

And feel free to up your sugar levels with the help of the tsoHost sweetie pot.

Perk alert: free Book

Of course, the real sweet treat on the stand won’t be made of candy. As an exclusive for the WordCamp London event, the tsoHost team has created a one-off book that will be made available to everyone who visits the stand and leaves an email address.

Entitled The tsoHost Guide to Search Engine Optimisation the freebie will feature all the latest advice on SEO with an emphasis on SEO for WordPress.

See you there?

Tickets are still available for the event, costing £40 for both non-contributor days – April 6 and 7. The tsoHost team would love to see you there. For more information visit the WordCamp London website.
