Our migrations team provide you with a preview link of your website so you can test it before it goes live. If you are happy with the result, you can approve the migration. If you are unhappy you can reject it and our team will work with you to resolve any issues you have with the preview of the site.
At this stage, you will have a live website on your old hosting, and a migrated website hosted with us waiting to go live. In order for the newly migrated website to go live, you will need to point the domain to us by updating the nameservers. This is something that we cannot do for you, but we can tell you how. You have two options:
The first is to go to your domain registrar (which might not be us) and change the nameservers to ours. The simplest way to put a site live is to set the domain to our nameservers. This will point the website, plus emails and all other domain records to us.
If we are your domain registrar, then you need to log into your client area, view your domains, and then change the nameservers. Make sure you unlock the domain first.
- Advanced Users: Website A record (Custom DNS)
Alternatively, if you have an advanced domain setup, you may want to change the A record to ours.
We will provide specific instructions.
Once you make this change please allow up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect. Please note that this does not involve any downtime of your website as both the live site and the newly migrated site will be online at all times.
It is important to remember that where the domain name points is not necessarily the same as who you pay for the domain name registration and renewal. If you for example have transferred the domain to us, it is quite possible that the domain still points to the old server and you will need to login and update the nameservers.
