Changing your administrator log in details in Joomla
When you first install Joomla on your hosting package the first thing you get is your username and password, but to make logging in for the first time hassle free we generate very simple log in details; these details aren't very secure, however, so the first thing we recommend you do is change the username and the password.
Once you have logged in, you are going to arrive at your Joomla control panel, and from here you can easily navigate to any part of your administrator area and get a quick overview of your Joomla installation. In order to change your username and password you will want to click on the “Users” tab at the top of the page and, when the drop-down menu appears, click on the “User Manager” option. From here you can add users, edit existing ones, block/unblock users, delete users, manage their access to your site and a wide range of other options.
As this is a fresh install there will be only one user, which is your “Super User” account, and to edit it simply click on it's name.
Clicking on a users name brings up the “Edit Profile” page, from here you can change the users name, password, contact e-mail address, frontend/backend language and a number of other options.
For now, however, we're just interested in the Login Name and the Password, and if it will make remembering which account is your main admin account easier, you can also change the Name.
Once you have made the appropriate changes (We recommend the password have at least one capital letter, one number, one special character, not use any 'dictionary' words and be at least 8 characters long) Click Save to save and stay on the same screen, Save & Close to save and go back to the User Manager, or Save & New to create a new user account using these details. If you don't want to save any changes click Close.
Your user name and password have now been changed and, if you're following our recommendations, will be considerably more secure
