Cloud and cPanel Hosting; What's The Difference?

Posted 12th March, 2013 by Aliysa

A question we often get asked by prospective clients is "What's the difference between your Cloud and cPanel hosting?" Many have stumbled across the term 'Cloud' thanks to its increasingly popularity in the hosting industry, however very few truly understand how it differs from standard hosting and the advantages provided by hosting on the platform. In this post I will discuss the key difference between our standard legacy cPanel and Cloud hosting; highlighting a number of advantages provided to users hosting on the Cloud.

Extreme Reliability

In contrast to cPanel which is tied to one piece of hardware, the Tsohost Cloud is clustered over multiple servers, run from multiple locations, meaning there is no single point of failure. Should a web server fail on the Cloud it has no impact on a sites ability to function, other servers within the cluster take over the load and continue to serve content. This robust and reliable hosting environment is further supported by effective load balancing. When a user visits a website on the Cloud, an advanced layer 7 load balancer despatches that request to a backend application servers, meaning that; if your website receives a burst of traffic, each web server experiences a modest increase in traffic and continues to effectively perform without disruption.

Scalability and Flexibility

One of the key benefits of hosting on the Cloud is its scalability. With no limit to the number of servers that can be added to the cluster, the Cloud can effortlessly accommodate the unprecedented growth of clients websites without experiencing downtime. On top of being highly scalable, the Clouds flexible account management interface allows users to configure their hosting package; upgrading or downgrading their resource allowance (when required) without assistance from Tsohost support staff.

Linux and Windows Hosting

Unlike cPanel hosting the Cloud platform allows users to switch between both Linux and Windows, and even simultaneously run both in 'hybrid mode', meaning its possible to manage both PHP and ASP websites in one control panel. This is particularly useful for users that want the main domain to run a Windows site, and WordPress on a subdomain (Linux).

One-Click Auto Installs

The Clouds one - click auto installer, has significantly reduced the time it takes users to install software by automatically submitting a number of forms that users are required to complete on cPanel. Within the Clouds easy-to-use control panel users can now install over 25 popular software including WordPress, Joomla, Prestashop, Magento in just one-click.

Intuitive Control Panel

The Clouds control panel has been built entirely in house, with user's needs and wants central to its creation. The Clouds control panel is remarkably simple to use but also very advance enabling users to have full control over every aspect of their site. As well as all the basic management tools, there are a whole host of advanced tools including Cron Jobs, Wildcard Mapping, Custom Error pages and many more.
